Malayer Rugs are an integral part of SilkRoad weaving history. These unique pieces embody an angular northwestern style, distinguished by an array of rich motifs and vibrant colors. Woven in Malayer, a city and eponymous county within the province of Hamadan, rugs feature dense and elaborate patterns, from Allover lozenge shapes to subtle curvilinear details of Herati patterns. Borders are detailed and ornate, and range from producing area rugs, to runners, to room-sized pieces commissioned for specific purposes. While boteh motifs are often found, some feature large-scale arabesques. Today is an excellent time to celebrate antique Malayer rugs, because they are gaining the recognition they deserve. These splendid weavings have a dignified quality that adds richness to any interior.
