02 — How a piece is made
The loom, the dye, and the finish
A Canvello pillow is made in three stages, and each one leaves its mark on the cloth.

Woven by hand
Silk velvet and ikat are woven on hand looms by artisans in Turkey and Uzbekistan. The threads are dyed before they are woven, so the pattern’s edges soften, and no two runs read exactly alike. -
Coloured with natural dyes
Many of our velvets, and the handspun wool of our rug pillows, are coloured with natural vegetable dyes. Every lot reads a little differently, and that is the point. -
Made to be kept
Each cover closes with a hidden zip over a down-feather insert, so it comes off for cleaning and goes back on, season after season.

Woven abroad, finished at home
We have lived among the people who make these pieces, and we buy from the places that have long made them. Each piece’s description says where it was woven and where it was sewn.
