A striking study in contrast, this Black & Ivory Silk Velvet Lumbar Pillow combines a bold graphic pattern with the richness and dimensional beauty of handwoven velvet.
The design features rhythmic black forms against a warm ivory ground, creating an abstract geometric composition with subtle ikat-inspired character. The slightly irregular edges of the motif reveal the handmade nature of the textile, giving the pattern considerably more depth and personality than a conventional printed fabric.
Woven from luxurious silk velvet, the surface responds beautifully to light. Depending on the direction of the pile and surrounding illumination, the black can shift from deep charcoal to near-black while the ivory develops a soft, luminous quality.
The 16x24-inch (40x60 cm) lumbar format makes this an exceptionally versatile designer accent. Its elongated proportion works beautifully centered on a sofa or bed, layered with larger square pillows, or styled independently on an accent chair, bench, chaise, or loveseat.
The patterned silk velvet face is paired with a natural linen back and concealed zipper closure. A premium down feather insert is included for the relaxed, generously filled appearance preferred in professionally designed interiors.
Each pillow is individually finished in our California atelier by skilled artisans, celebrating the distinctive character of the handwoven textile.
Details: 16 x 24 inches (40 x 60 cm); handwoven silk velvet face; black and warm ivory palette; abstract geometric pattern; natural linen back; hidden zipper closure; premium down feather insert included; individually finished; indoor use.
Variations in velvet pile, weave, pattern placement and coloration are part of the handcrafted character of each piece.
This is an excellent pillow when a room needs contrast without introducing another color.
The pattern is visually strong, so I would generally let this pillow become the focal point rather than surrounding it with several other bold patterns.
On a cream, ivory, oatmeal or warm-white sofa, pair it with solid camel, chocolate, taupe or textured ivory pillows.
On cognac or saddle leather, the black-and-ivory palette becomes especially sophisticated. Add a solid cream boucle pillow and the entire arrangement immediately feels warmer and more collected.
For a charcoal or black sofa, layer this lumbar in front of larger ivory or natural linen pillows. The light portions of the pattern will provide enough contrast to keep the composition dimensional.
For a bed, I would use one centered 16x24 lumbar in front of ivory, flax, taupe or charcoal shams rather than using multiple patterned pillows.
It would also look exceptional with white oak, walnut, travertine, limestone, cream boucle, natural linen, cognac leather, blackened metal and aged brass.
This design is especially suitable for Organic Modern, Modern Heritage, Warm Minimalism, Contemporary, Transitional, California Modern, Modern Mediterranean, Earthy Modern, Eclectic Luxury, Updated Bohemian, Wabi-Sabi-inspired interiors, Mid-Century Modern and Curated Maximalism.
I would particularly target Organic Modern + Modern Heritage + Contemporary in your merchandising.
For staging, this can solve a common problem: a high-end neutral room that photographs as too beige and visually flat.
Try:
Ivory boucle sofa + this black/ivory lumbar + camel solid pillows + walnut coffee table + travertine accessories.
Or:
Cognac leather sofa + this lumbar + cream textured pillows + black side table + oversized neutral artwork.
For a luxury bedroom:
Warm white bedding + oatmeal upholstered headboard + centered black/ivory lumbar + walnut nightstands.
The strong contrast gives listing photography an immediate focal point without making the room feel overly decorated.
