This velvet pillow is crafted using the traditional Turkish Ikat design and the highest quality designer velvet fabric. Velvet is not just a fabric for clothing, but is also often used for upholstery and decorative throw pillows to bring an elegant, authentic look to your home. Baghmal (Tadjik/Uzbek) and Maghmal (Persian) are other names for the silk velvet ikat fabric. The production of this fabric begins with dyeing the warp threads multiple times, then arranging them on the loom with a plain orange or pink dyed foundation warp. Weaving then takes place in a plain velvet technique, followed by the running of a razor through the wire groove to create an even, distinctively ikatted pattern on the pile.
Velvet Ikat Fabrics are handwoven and hand dyed texture, that is the reason they often have slight imperfections, such as flecks of other dye colors, looped yarns and what appears to run. This inherent beauty of the fabric contributes authenticity to the charm of our handmade craftsmanship.
